Blogging-tips

I got an email from someone who'd just started a blog at BearBlog. He asked for some advice on how to become an active member of the IndyWeb community. All I could honestly do was list the tools I've used and can personally vouch for. Feel free to adapt and share this as you see fit.

  1. Open an account at https://omg.lol. OMG.LOL is an IndyWeb powerhouse that gives you an enormous amount of services for $20 a year. You can have an auxiliary blog, make a /now page or a Link in Bio page, upload pictures, get a proof of ownership certificate, have your own RSS feed, access a private Discord server and join the best Mastodon community on the Internet at social.lol. Plus you get a free .lol domain for a year to use with BearBlog. That's not even all. Go take a look. My referral link is:https://home.omg.lol/referred-by/amerpie

  2. Once you join the social.lol instance of Mastodon, let me know and I will do an introductory post so that all of my friends and followers can "meet you"

  3. Add your blog to the directory a friend and I have just set up. A Blog Directory (bearblog.dev)

  4. Practice POSSE (Publish (on your) Own Site, Syndicate Elsewhere) - You can use Echofeed for free to syndicate your main RSS feed.

  5. You can also syndicate through Micro.blog, a $5 a month service with lots of benefits and many experienced Indy Web types who are super helpful.

  6. Write regularly. The more you write, the better you will feel about it. I suggest you take part in the upcoming blogging challenge, Blaugust.
